One Direction star Louis Tomlinson sends Man Utd star Daniel James message after debut goal

One Direction star Louis Tomlinson has sent a message to Daniel James following his emotional debut goal for Manchester United.

Wales international James had a debut to remember for United over the weekend when he came off the bench to net a goal on his first senior appearance for the club.

The 21-year-old endured mixed emotions over the summer when he lost his father shortly before completing his dream move to Old Trafford from Swansea.

Losing a parent at a young age is something Tomlinson can empathise with as his mother sadly died from leukaemia in 2016.

Taking to Twitter after the match, the former One Direction singer congratulated James on his emotional first goal for the club, and praised the Welsh winger for the mentality he has shown.

"Just wanted to say a massive congratulations to @Daniel_James_97, " Tomlinson tweeted after the match.

"You’re clearly a strong lad mentally. Wishing you all the best mate!"

Tomlinson was not the only musical superstar to congratulate James on his first goal for the club, with grime artist Stormzy also taking the time to praise the former Swansea forward.

Taking to Instagram during the match, Stormzy uploaded a video clip of James' deflected strike and added the caption: "Well done lad could see that meant a lot to you @daniel_james97."
