One dead, two injured after Vic shooting

A man is dead and two others are in hospital with injuries after a highway shooting in the minutes after a crash at Geelong.

Police believe the shooting was a targeted attack.

The shooting occurred on the Princes Highway at Corio about 6am Saturday, police said.

A silver station wagon with a driver and two passengers turned onto a service road to access the highway, when a truck hit it and caused extensive damage.

Then the occupant of another vehicle, which had been following the silver car, approached the crash and fired a gun at the occupants before fleeing.

A man in his 40s died at the scene.

Ambulances took two men in their 20s to Geelong University Hospital with minor injuries.

The truck driver was uninjured.

Homicide detectives are appealing for information from the public about the shooting which took place near Harpur Road.

They're looking into whether another gun incident in Norlane before the fatal shooting is linked.

Police are expected to provide further information.
