One dead, three injured in Bribie Island apartment fire

A man rushed in to help the occupants of the burning apartment.

A man has died and a firefighter is among three people injured in a blaze that gutted an apartment on Bribie Island, north of Brisbane, this morning.

Two people are in hospital after escaping the blaze in Boyd Street at Woorim shortly before 7:00am.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said the apartment was well alight when crews arrived, with smoke billowing from the roof.

Police have declared a crime scene but are not yet saying how the fire started.

A man outside the building who noticed the fire rushed in to help the apartment's occupants.

He managed to help one of the residents to safety, suffering minor injuries in the process.

A man in his 60s was transported to Caboolture Hospital in a stable condition with smoke inhalation, a Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said.

Paramedics also treated a man in his 40s at the scene for lacerations to his legs.

A firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation.

Local fire station manager Bruce Forde said six crews battled the blaze.

"The fire was pretty intense speaking to the initial crews, very hot inside so I think they've done a good job," he said.

"The fire was contained to the unit."
