A MAN is fighting for his life and another has died after a light aircraft crash in the Hunter Valley.

Police, firefighters and paramedics were called to a property northwest of Singleton about 1pm on Sunday after reports a recreational vehicle had come down.

They arrived at the Old Goorangoola Road property in Goorangoola to find the body of a 40-year-old man.

Police said he was a passenger on the aircraft.

The pilot, who police said was 46 years old, was treated at the scene.

He was subsequently flown to North Shore Hospital by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service in a critical condition.

A report will be prepared for the coroner, and police have informed the Australian Sports Rotorcraft Association and Australian Transport Safety Bureau of the incident.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
