One dead in Highlands horror crash as road closed for seven hours

A person has died after a late-night smash on a Highlands road.

Police and paramedics were scrambled to the the C1016 near Alness at around 12.40am this morning.

Officers found a Toyota RAV4 car had crashed between Alness and Achandunie, north of Millcraig Road.

The 56 year-old woman driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

A full report will be forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal.

Sergeant Kate Park from the Road Policing Unit said:  “We are working to establish the exact time that this road crash took place."

The road was shut for seven hours as police launched an investigation.

Park added: "I am urging anyone who was driving on this road between 10.30pm on Saturday evening, and 12.40am on Sunday morning who witnessed this take place, or who has information that may assist our continuing enquiry to contact us through 101 quoting reference number 0161 of 29 November.”
