A 76-year-old woman has died in a fatal crash on a quiet residential street in Edinburgh.
Officers quickly responded to a host of calls from panicked locals on Saxe Coburg Place in Stockbridge at around 10am on Friday morning.
A huge emergency response hurried to the street, with paramedics in rapid response ambulances joining at least five police vehicles, however the victim - who was the sole occupier of the vehicle - was pronounced dead at the scene.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing a huge emergency response arrive earlier this morning before police locked down the aarea to carry out initial enquiries into the incident.
Locals were urged to avoid travel to or through the street until initial investigations were completed and a cordon remained in place.
Officers remained on the scene for several hours, but have since left the area.
They have now launched an appeal for any witnesses who have not yet spoke to officers to come forward.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers were called to Saxe Coburg Place in Edinburgh, at around 10am on Friday, 21 May, 2021, following a road traffic collision involving one vehicle.
"As a result of the collision the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a 76-year-old woman, sustained fatal injuries.
"The road was closed until around 1pm for collision investigation and has since re-opened. Anyone who saw the incident and has not yet spoken to officers, should contact Police Scotland on 101 and quote incident number 0823 of 21 May."
