Four tropical cyclones could form in Queensland waters this summer with one expected to cross the coastline, according to the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM).
The BOM has released its season outlook and is urging Queenslanders to prepare for severe weather.
Acting state manager Victoria Dodds said a normal Australian summer was expected this year, with possible heatwave conditions for north Queensland.
"We'd look to be getting about 10 to 13 tropical cyclones forming somewhere in Australian waters this year," she said.
"If we look out east to the Coral Sea and surrounding oceans, that means about four tropical cyclones with one potentially impacting Queensland.
"It's that one tropical storm as we saw in severe Tropical Cyclone Debbie that can cause major disruption and devastation for a community so we can never be complacent.
"No matter what Mother Nature throws at us this season, if you have a plan, if you keep informed and keep up to date hopefully you'll stay safe."
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said Queenslanders were still recovering from the impacts of Tropical Cyclone Debbie, which crossed the coast in March.
"We never can predict the exact timing of cyclones or the exact impact and what we saw from Tropical Cyclone Debbie was an absolutely huge impact across our state," she said.
"Over $2 billion worth of damage and of course people are still going through the recovery effort.
"There are still people out there that are going through counselling and it had horrific impacts on people's homes."
