Figures released this week revealed that there were six Covid-related deaths across the country last week, including one in North Lanarkshire.
Coronavirus deaths across the country are now at the lowest level since the first death was recorded on March 13.
South Lanarkshire was one of 27 local authority areas in Scotland to record no coronavirus deaths last week, after two were recorded in Falkirk and one each in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, East Lothian and North Lanarkshire.
As a result, there have been 269 deaths where coronavirus was listed on the death certificate in North Lanarkshire. Of those, 94 were in care homes, 152 in hospital and 23 were in other settings including at home.
That takes the total number of coronavirus deaths in Lanarkshire to 583 as of Sunday, July 19.
Pete Whitehouse, Director of the National Records of Scotland’s Statistical Services, said: “Every life that is lost because of this virus is a tragedy and brings heartbreak to families across the country.
“This week’s publication shows a continuing decline in the number of people dying from Covid-19.
“Since the peak week in mid-April, when 661 Covid-19 related deaths were registered, the number of these deaths has thankfully declined for twelve consecutive weeks, to six in the latest week.”
