One Covid-19 death in Bristol as thousand more test positive - latest figures

There has been one coronavirus-related death recorded in Bristol in the latest official figures.

The numbers from the government’s coronavirus dashboard show that the death was the only one recorded in the Bristol region in the past 24 hours.

A further 2,317 people tested positive for Covid-19 in the Bristol region, with a total of 967 recorded in the city.

This comes after a 2,833 people tested positive for Covid-19 in the Bristol region yesterday, on New Year’s Day.

There were also four coronavirus-related deaths recorded in the Bristol region yesterday.

The North Bristol NHS Trust has recorded eight patients admitted to hospital as of Sunday, December 26, with a total of 52 in hospital and eight on mechanical ventilation.

Meanwhile, there were 12 patients admitted to the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust, with a total of 55 in the hospital and four on ventilation.

England reported a total of 137,583 new cases today, as well as 73 deaths within 28 days of a positive test.

The total number of cases confirmed in each region around Bristol since the pandemic began, with the daily rise in brackets, are as follows:

City of Bristol - 97,453 (+967)

North Somerset: 36,605 (+429)

South Gloucestershire - 55,265 (+573)

Bath and North East Somerset: 35,437 (+348)

Total daily increase: +2,317

The total number of deaths (within 28 days of a positive Covid test) recorded in each region are as follows:

City of Bristol - 606 (+1)

North Somerset: 365 (-)

South Gloucestershire - 409 (-)

Bath and North East Somerset: 265 (-)

Total daily increase: +1
