One coronavirus patient has died at Salford Royal Hospital this week

One coronavirus patient has died at Salford Royal Hospital this week as numbers continue to drop.

Figures from NHS England show that one person passed away after contracting the disease on Thursday.

However, before that the hospital had gone five days without any Covid-19 related deaths.

The total number of people to die as a result of the coronavirus in Salford has now reached 164.

In comparison, 205 people have died at the Royal Bolton Hospital.

Across Greater Manchester the total death toll in the hospitals has reached 1,726.

But, the figures for individual health trusts continue to fall.

The latest data from the Office for National Statistics, published on Tuesday, showed 39,071 deaths involving Covid-19 occurred in England and Wales up to May 8 (and had been registered up to May 16).

Together, these figures mean that, so far, 43,281 deaths have been registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate, including suspected cases.
