One Bristol neighbourhood sees jump in Covid cases

Coronavirus cases remain very low in almost all parts of Bristol — but one neighbourhood has seen a jump in recent days.

The Government's latest Covid cluster map shows St Pauls had 18 cases in the week to May 16, a rise of 800 per cent from the previous week, when it had just two.

The map, published on Friday (May 21), shows just seven Bristol neighbourhoods with more than 10 cases per 100,000 people. The vast majority of areas in the city have fewer than three cases in total.

No parts of the city are in the map's three most severe categories for coronavirus infection rates. St Pauls has the highest rate in Bristol, with 133.7 cases per 100,000 people.

Areas with fewer than three cases do not register figures on the map. This means no parts of North Somerset are included, and only one in South Gloucestershire — Patchway, which has seven cases and a rolling rate of 49.7.

Here is a list of the neighbourhoods with the highest rates:

Totterdown: 3 cases, rolling rate of 42.2 (per 100,000 people)

Windmill Hill: 3 cases, rolling rate of 40.5

Lower Easton: 3 cases, rolling rate of 33.9

St Pauls: 18 cases, rolling rate of 133.7

Lockleaze: 4 cases, rolling rate of 52.6

Highridge: 3 cases, rolling rate of 49.6

Shirehampton and Avonmouth: 3 cases, rolling rate of 30.4.
