One Ayrshire region branded 'most forgetful' in Scotland when it comes to moving house

Ayrshire residents have ranked amongst the top ‘most wasteful’ and ‘most forgetful’ when it comes to moving house.

Home buying company WeBuyAnyHome asked the nation about their knack for leaving things behind when moving and noted some of the weirdest ‘lost property’ found in new homes.

With lockdown lifted and new house moves on the rise, WBAH have spun one of the least fun aspects of selling and buying a new home- the actual moving part.

The study revealed North Ayrshire were the top of the ‘Most Forgetful’ list — with a quarter of the country admitting that they have forgotten something in a move.

South Ayrshire is the second most wasteful area in the country, under leading Moray, when it comes to purposefully ditching their unwanted items on poor unsuspecting new residents, as 27 per cent of Scots admitted to intentionally leaving behind rejected and unused belongings.

Messages on the wall have been revealed as the most common ‘token’ left behind by Scots, with almost two in five leaving these behind when moving home.

Plants accounted for 25 percent most commonly left behind, while rotten food accounted for 10 percent.

And amongst the weirdest belongings left behind and found by new owners were an artificial leg, false teeth, crutches, underwear and wedding rings.

WeBuyAnyHome said: “Arguably, some of us may need to improve on recycling our unwanted belongings and keeping track of our stuff when moving home, but who can blame you when moving is easily one of the most stressful situations you’ll face in life.

“On the bright side, whether these ‘lost belongings’ are being left behind intentionally or not, leaving that random item or two behind can either turn into a really good story to tell or give your unwanted belongings a second life — but please don’t leave your underwear behind, no one should be re-using that.”
