One arrested as watches, vehicles, and cash seized as part of Operation Thor

A man has been arrested and a rake of valuables have been seized after a huge garda operation aimed at cracking down on an organised crime group in Dublin.

Six Rolex watches, €33,000 in cash, jewellery, and three vehicles were seized during the operation which was spread across Dublin, Kildare, and Westmeath.

A 23-year-old man was arrested under suspicion of being involved in money laundering and detained in Ronanstown Garda Station.

The massive operation, which was undertaken by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) and assisted by the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB), is only the start of a Winter wave of raids according to Assistant Commissioner John O'Driscoll.

He said: "In the course of the Winter Phase of Operation Thor, throughout Ireland members of the Garda Síochána are targeting organised crime groups who are believed to be involved in residential burglaries.

"Today this activity has resulted in an arrest and the seizure of property of significant value, believed to be proceeds of crime.

"Our activity in this regard will continue in an effort to prevent burglaries from taking place in the first instance and to recover stolen property and apprehend culprits, where burglaries have already taken place”.
