One stopped and one flees after hit and run car rolls in Anfield street

A car flipped onto its roof in Anfield following a hit and run incident. 

Pictures show a silver Hyundai on its roof on Anfield Road at its junction with Elsie Road following the crash at around 11.15pm last night.

The area was swamped with police, fire, and ambulance crews following the crash, and witnesses said that police were searching the area with dog units.

They also told the ECHO that the car appeared to have struck a stationary vehicle.

One person was taken to hospital, however the extent of their injuries is not known.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "We can confirm that enquiries are ongoing following a fail to stop road traffic accident in Anfield last night, Sunday 15 July.

"At around 11.15pm, emergency services were called to Anfield Road at the junction of Harrow Road to reports of a Hyundai I40 having overturned.

"One man was stopped at the scene and a second man is believed to have run off. 

"Enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances of the incident and nobody was reported as being injured."

A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service said: "We sent two engines plus a search and rescue appliance to reports of a one-vehicle road traffic accident, with a car on its roof.

"All persons were out of the vehicle before we go there and crews remained to make the scene safe."

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said an ambulance and a hazardous area response team was sent to the scene after the car had "rolled".

They confirmed one person was taken to hospital.
