Ondrej Kudela appeals ban after Rangers racism verdict as lawyer makes 'no new evidence' claim

Ondrej Kudela has launched an appeal over the 10-game suspension handed to him by UEFA after he was found guilty of racially abusing Glen Kamara by the governing body.

The Rangers midfielder alleged Slavia Prague stopper Kudela called him a "f****** monkey" in the Europa League last 16 tie.

The sanction stopped Kudela from taking part in the second leg of his side's quarter-final against Arsenal and some of the remaining matches are set to be served when the Czech Republic take part in Euro 2020 this summer.

But upon receiving a written explanation for the ban from UEFA on Thursday, his lawyer will now spearhead an appeal.

Legal advisor Rene Cienciala insisted there was nothing in the reasoning to back up the double-digit sanction, despite many observers criticising UEFA for deploying the minimum punishment for players found to have racially abused a fellow pro.

"The file does not contain any new evidence," Cienciala told Reuters.

Rangers stated last week they intend to appeal bans against Kemar Roofe and Kamara.

Roofe was involved in a brutal collision with Slavia keeper Ondrej Kolar, receiving four games, while Kamara was found to have had an altercation with Kudela after the match and was suspended for three matches.

Rangers said as part of a statement: "We believe the sanctions imposed on our two players (Glen Kamara and Kemar Roofe) are severe. We have written to UEFA, seeking clarification in writing on the basis that we intend to appeal the suspensions on both of players."
