'Once-in-a-lifetime opportunity' - Peel release statement after Everton new stadium approval

Peel L&P have today "welcomed" the decision to approve Everton's application to build a new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.

The Blues' plans were voted for unanimously by Liverpool City Council's planning committee and the project now awaits final approval from central government.

Everton agreed a deal with Peel in early 2017 to take control of the site of the city's waterfront and today's decision moves the club a major step closer to starting construction.

Peel L&P’s Director of Development for Liverpool Waters, Darran Lawless, commented: “We welcome Liverpool City Council’s decision to approve Everton Football Club’s planning application for their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, here at our Liverpool Waters site.

“Everton’s new stadium is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the whole city and a major catalyst for not only the Liverpool Waters development but the regeneration of the northern part of the city and Goodison Park.

“The design improvements that Everton have made as part of the revised planning application include exciting new public realm features such as a new stepped terrace, and opening up the historic waterfront which at present is inaccessible by members of the public.

“These plans complement our own efforts to make the entirety of Liverpool’s waterfront a place for thriving businesses and communities by creating thousands of new jobs, new homes and a destination for world class leisure and tourism.”
