NEW DELHI: On this day - June 20 in 2011 - India's star batter Virat Kohli stepped into the Test format for the first time. He made his against West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica.

Despite being a prolific right-handed batsman, Kohli had a modest start in his maiden Test, scoring only 19 runs throughout the match.

In the first innings, he could only muster four runs before being dismissed by Fidel Edwards. Kohli batted at the number five position but failed to make a substantial impact.

During the second innings, he managed to score 15 runs off 54 balls before once again falling victim to Fidel Edwards. However, despite Kohli's limited contribution, India emerged victorious, winning the match by a margin of 63 runs. Little did anyone know that Kohli would go on to leave an indelible mark on Test cricket.

Since that memorable Test debut, Kohli has become a key figure in Indian Test cricket.

Over the course of his career, he has played 109 Test matches, amassing an impressive 28 centuries at an average of 48.72. His influence on Indian Test cricket has been transformative.
