'On the cards' - Nottingham Forest transfer 'target' backed to make January move

Reported Nottingham Forest transfer target Jack Clarke has played his last game for Leeds United, according to one former player.

The Reds are one of a number of clubs credited with an interest in the 19-year-old who is currently spending the season on loan at Elland Road from Tottenham Hotspur.

Championship duo Fulham and Brentford are the latest clubs linked with a move for Clarke during the January window, with there much talk that the player could have his loan spell at Leeds end in the New Year.

Derby County and Middlesbrough are two of the sides who have also previously been linked with Clarke.

Tottenham are said to have an option to recall him midway through the campaign, and it seems there is plenty of interest from other teams in taking him on loan for the second half of the season.

Clarke has only played three matches for Leeds this term, and has had to settle for a place among the substitutes for the majority of the season.

But the youngster was not part of the matchday squad for Leeds’ Championship fixture against Fulham at the weekend.

Former Leeds striker Noel Whelan reckons that Clarke will not wear the Leeds shirt again, and is destined to leave Elland Road in the New Year.

“Yeah, I do,” said Whelan, when asked by Football Insider if Clarke has played his last match for the Whites.

He added: “It’s been on the cards, it’s been coming. We’ve not seen anything of Jack Clarke this season. When we have seen Jack Clarke come on he’s not really done anything.

“The talks with Jose Mourinho won’t be about joining the first team, he’s not ready, simple as that. Tottenham need a better quality of player right now.

“He was brilliant when he broke through last season but he’s got a lot of learning to do and he’s not been getting time to do that at Leeds either.

“He’s not been getting in the team, he’s not been getting any game time. I think the best thing that could happen for Jack Clarke is that he goes back out on loan to another club.”
