Stephen Curry had 27 points but not much help Thursday night in the Warriors’ 114-93 loss to the Phoenix Suns.
On the second night of a back-to-back set, only Andrew Wiggins (16 points) provided Curry with scoring support as the Warriors (10-9) looked tired, settled for perimeter jumpers and offered little resistance to Phoenix’s offense.
The Suns (9-8) made their decisive run in the third quarter, when a layup from Mikal Bridges (team-high 20 points) capped an 11-0 run to give them a 12-point lead, which they pushed to 14 by the end of the quarter.
With tired legs, Golden State shot 38.8% overall while Phoenix, without Devin Booker (hamstring) shot 46.6% from the field, including 53.6% on 2-pointers that mostly came comfortably in the paint.
Twenty-four hours after a convincing win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Warriors had an opportunity to string together their first three-game win streak of the season. While these back-to-back games can be tough, it’s still a disappointing loss against a short-handed Suns team entering the night on a three-game losing streak. These are the sort of games the Warriors need to win in order to cement their status as a playoff team in the West.
