'On one hand, a hardworking, mature man'... on the other, a stalker 'living in a fantasy world' - he threatened to rape a woman in the street and 'destroy her reputation'

A stalker threatened to rape a woman in the street, said he'd 'destroy her reputation' and bombarded her with calls after she rejected his romantic advances.

Ahmad Qhobadpour, 35, then started stalking her friend to try and get to the woman.

Qhobadpour, from Rusholme, had never been in a relationship with the either of the two victims, but had met them at the shisha bar where he worked.

After the first victim, split from her boyfriend, an increasingly terrifying campaign of harassment continued for months.

She feared what he might do, and even left her family home.

Qhobadpour turned up at one her relative's houses, let down the tyres to her car and started banging on her vehicle when she tried to get away.

The woman's friend, started to lose her hair, which she attributed to the stress of Qhobadpour's stalking.

Qhobadpour has now been jailed for two years.

A judge said he'd been living in a 'fantasy world'.

Speaking of the two victims, Judge Elizabeth Nicholls said: "They were forced to change their daily routine to avoid you, and they lived with an increasing level of stress that impacted every moment of their waking life.

"On the one hand you are a hardworking, mature man with no previous convictions.

"But on the other side of the equation, you appear to live in a fantasy world.

"But that world is entwined with your sense of entitlement over these women.

"Coupled with an absence of any social understanding or social restraint, this is a dangerous and heady mix."

Manchester Crown Court heard Qhobadpour would say hello to the woman and make general conversation at the shisha bar.

By summer last year the woman started to become 'concerned' about his behaviour and felt 'uncomfortable' about comments he made.

She felt he was trying to 'drive a rift' between her and her partner, prosecutor Maria Brannan said.

When the couple did split up, Qhobadpour then began asking her to go on a date.

She told him she liked him as a 'friend or a brother', but this just made Qhobadpour 'angry'.

He tried to 'manipulate situations' to try and get her alone, prosecutors said.

Qhobadpour wanted her to go to his house. She refused but agreed to speak over the phone.

He began to repeatedly call her, up to 100 times in on day, and 75 times on another day.

When she didn't answer, Qhobadpour tried to contact her on social media.

After she blocked him, he tried to message her on different social media platforms.

"She tried to ignore him, hoping he would get the message that she wasn't interested," Ms Brannan said.

"This did not work or stop the defendant."

She changed her routines to try and avoid him, and took longer routes so she didn't pass through Rusholme.

She decided to move out of her family home and stay with a friend, because she was 'in fear of her own life' and wanted to protect her family.

Qhobadpour then turned his attentions to the woman's friend, and began contacting her on a 'daily basis' asking where her friend was.

They decided to lie to him, saying she was unwell to try and put him off.

Qhobadpour blamed the friend for the woman not speaking to him.

In March, the first victim found that the tyres of her car had been let down.

She decided she needed to speak to Qhobadpour, to try and protect her friend.

During the call, Qhobadpour told her: "I will find you and I will f*** you."

He also said he would force her to make a video, saying she 'slept around' to 'destroy her reputation'.

Then in April, Qhobadpour called her and she answered.

"He told her he would find her and rape her in the street in front of everyone," Ms Brannan said.

"He said he would not stop until he found her and raped her."

Qhobadpour later turned up at her family home, and told her mother that they were in a 'relationship' and demanded to be told where she was.

The victim called the police.

She had spent an evening with the friend and her boyfriend, and as she went to leave Qhobadpour 'suddenly appeared'.

She was 'terrified and shaking' and as she drove off Qhobadpour started punching and kicking the car.

The woman drove straight to a police station, and Qhobadpour was arrested.

In a statement read to the court, she described her 'horrendous' ordeal.

She said: "I started to feel that I had to keep looking over my shoulder, thinking when would be the next time he would just suddenly appear out of nowhere.

"I made it very clear to him that all I wanted was for him to leave me alone.

"The threats of him wanting to rape me made me feel terrified even to leave the house.

"The threats he made to me throughout this time were horrendous.

"All I want now is to feel safe, and not to look over my shoulder or worry about turning my phone on."

Her friend, who was also stalked by Qhobadpour, said she was left stressed and anxious, and even suffered hair loss.

She said: "Due to the stress I have noticed an increasing amount of hair loss that I can only put down to my high stress levels that I felt due to this crime."

Defending, Anna Chestnutt said Qhobadpour had led a 'blame free life' previously and had worked hard in jobs in hospitality, including as a manager in cafes.

She said he apologises for his behaviour and understands he needs to undergo rehabilitation work.

Qhobadpour, of Beveridge Street, Rusholme, admitted two counts of stalking.

A restraining order was also passed, to last seven years.
