Egypt reinforced security Friday at vital establishments and state institutions on the eighth anniversary of the January 25 revolution that led to the resignation of former President Hosni Mubarak in 2001.

Friday also marked National Police Day.

Asharq Al-Awsat witnessed in the evening of the revolution's anniversary the presence of Rapid Deployment Forces (RDF) in Tahrir Square from where the revolution erupted.

A security source told Asharq Al-Awsat that security patrols were given orders to crack down on any disruptors of the peace.

They have also been ordered to confront any terrorist activity.

In the same context, Dar al-Ifta al-Misriyyah stressed that a key achievement of the Egyptian revolution was that it exposed opportunists that exploited the occasion to achieve their goals at the expense of national interests.

It added that the revolution embodied the real engagement between the army and the people.

Dar al-Ifta al-Misriyyah noted that the national stances of the army and its historic legacy were highlighted when it stood side by side with the Egyptians.
