'On his knees' - The brilliant Brian Clough and Roy Keane story you might not have heard

Nottingham Forest's legendary manager Brian Clough always had people worshipping at his feet, as the original 'Special One' achieved the impossible with the Reds.

But one of his former players at the City Ground, Scot Gemmill, once told a story that Clough "idolised" Roy Keane so much that he would offer to take his boots off for him after matches.

"At the end of the game, Clough would normally be on his knees, offering to untie Keane’s boots for him, because he idolised Keane," he said.

Clough famously plucked Keane from obscurity when he signed him for Forest from Irish side Cobh Ramblers in 1990.

Considered to be Clough's last great signing for the club before he retired, Keane played over 100 league games for Forest before moving to Manchester United for a British record transfer fee of £3.75m in 1993.

He later said Clough was the best manager he played for, ahead of Sir Alex Ferguson - and Gemmill's brilliant story shows that admiration was reciprocated.
