It's all systems go here after Tony Blair called the election for May 5. The polls give all parties everything to play for, as Tom Happold notes today on our new Election Blog. We'll have full coverage on the site, including an audio report from Michael White.

We'll have more photographs of tens of thousands of pilgrims paying their last respects to Pope John Paul II as he lies in state at St Peter's Basilica.

MediaGuardian.co.uk will be looking at how the Vatican is catering for the world's media; and also at the BBC's delicate balancing act between Saturday's royal wedding and one of TV's biggest draws in terms of audience figures, the Grand National. We're also expecting more details of plans for the wedding itself.
