All change to our morning routine today, so apologies for the late post. Not only has Newsblog had a facelift, but the biggest strike at the BBC for a decade means there was no Today programme on Radio 4 and substantial disruption to other TV and radio news programmes. The action, over proposed job cuts, is expected to hit coverage of the Chelsea Flower Show - of which we'll have some nice photographs later today.
Here on the revamped Newsblog, we'll have the first of Jon Henley's daily posts from Paris on the last week of the French EU referendum campaign. Today he ponders the media-savvy Nicolas Sarkozy's surprise decision to pull out of a TV appearance. And on our World Dispatch section Luke Harding will be assessing the fallout from yesterday's surprise decision by Germany's Chancellor Gerhard Schröder to gamble on an early general election.
