Omicron symptoms for fully vaccinated - the nine things to watch out for according to new study

Many people are by now aware of the three key signs of covid.

And if you develop any of those three - such as a cough, a fever or a loss and change to your taste or small - it's worth booking a covid test and isolating just to be on the safe side.

Thankfully the worst of the omicron wave, according to First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, is over for Scotland and as a result of falling case numbers, places are re-opening and the travel and tourism sector is getting back to some form of normality.

For now however, masks are here to stay in a bid to keep these case numbers down.

Naturally though some people will catch the virus no matter what they do, but as we all know it's about preventing it as much as possible.

But what are the symptoms of the omicron variant people should be looking out for if they have been fully vaccinated?

What are the common signs of omicron among fully vaccinated?

According to research published in an infectious disease and epidemiology journal, Eurosurveillance, there are several symptoms said to be common among those who are fully vaccinated, reports HullLive.

The eight symptoms listed in the study include:

  1. A cough
  2. A runny nose
  3. Fatigue
  4. A sore throat
  5. A headache
  6. Muscle pain
  7. A fever
  8. Sneezing

Later, public health experts also added nausea to this list of symptoms in vaccinated people who have contracted the omicron variant, making this the ninth.

What are the two early signs of omicron and its 'stealth' variant?

According to Dr Angelique Coetzee, the South African doctor who first alerted authorities to omicron back in November 2021, fatigue alongside muscle pains can be among the early signs of the variant.

These symptoms may appear as early as two days after being exposed to someone who has omicron.

However, symptoms can take longer to appear, even up to 14 days after exposure, which is why if you've been exposed to the virus, you should either continue to test regularly (every day) or self-isolate for 10 days - or seven if you meet the criteria to leave early.

This applies to the stealth variant whilst two warning signs for both variants are said to be dizziness and fainting.

A German newspaper, Ärztezeitung, stated that doctors could see a "clear connection" between the omicron infection and the fainting spells after one patient's recurring fainting spells were triggered by the variant.
