NEW DELHI: Amid a steep rise in Omicron cases in Delhi, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday urged people not to panic and asked them to follow Covid appropriate behaviour.
Addressing a digital press conference, Kejriwal said, "No need to panic, we have all arrangements in place".
"Mask is the most effective measure against Covid-19, so please wear a mask every time you step out of home," the chief minister appealed to Delhiites.
"Given the rise in cases for some days, now all positive cases in Delhi will be sent for genome sequencing for Omicron," he added
The chief minister also urged the Centre to allow booster doses.
"Allow booster dose for health workers and other citizens to fight Omicron," Kejriwal appealed to the Central government.
"The Delhi govt will take all the measures necessary for the well-being of citizens. Special attention will be paid towards the home isolation facilities," the chief minister said.
"Experts have said that even though the variant spreads rapidly, the symptoms are mild and most of them do not require hospitalisation," he further added.
"We have decided to extend the free ration scheme in Delhi till May 31, 2022, he said, adding, during the pandemic and the subsequent lockdowns, the Delhi government had been distributing free ration to the citizens.
"In order to strengthen the home isolation program, a review meeting will be held on December 23," the chief minister said.
Six new cases of the Omicron variant were found in the city on Monday taking the total to 28.
