Omens indicating a Dolphins victory awaits this Sunday?

You’d be hard pressed to find anyone pounding the table to assert that the Miami Dolphins are a lock to win any football game this season. This team’s roster, by design, is woefully underarmed and will have a hard time with any opponent who takes the field. But perhaps a little bit of history falls into the favor of the Dolphins this weekend.

When the Dolphins host the Washington Redskins this upcoming Sunday, it will be the 6th time Washington has come south to play the Dolphins in Miami. In each of the team’s previous five meetings in South Florida, the Dolphins are undefeated at 5-0. And let’s be honest — this year’s Washington squad isn’t exactly instilling fear in anyone, either. Washington is 0-5 on the season and fired their head coach this past Monday in bold decision that indicates what everyone already knew: a rift exists in the Washington organization.

The Dolphins don’t have to worry about that this season. Owner Stephen Ross, general manager Chris Grier and head coach Brian Flores all know the deal — Miami had to tear things down to rebuild and give the organization the hard reset needed to position themselves with cap space, draft capital and perhaps the most important asset of all: time.

Furthermore, the Dolphins are 17-13 all-time coming off the bye week. Between Washington’s failures in Florida and the Dolphins’ history coming off the bye, perhaps there’s something brewing this weekend. The 2019 editions of both teams have little to do with all of those teams in the past, but Washington’s status as an equally hot mess certainly throws expectations for a loop.
