Omega CE-marks test for Covid-19 as it gets ready to make 46,000 a day

Medical diagnostics firm Omega has CE-Marked Mologic's first generation ELISA1 antibody test for Covid-19 to be used on patient samples sent by hospitals or GPs.

The move which comes a week after the two companies announced their deal is a crucial confirmation by the Clackmannanshire business that the test complies with EU regulations.

The CE-Mark follows successful independent validation of the test by the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and St George's, University of London. Validation is also being carried out by Public Health England, NHS Scotland and in the Republic of Ireland.

Omega will make up to 46,000 of the tests a day at its facility in Littleport, Cambridgeshire, and will now finalise a longer-term supply agreement with Mologic.

Colin King, CEO of Omega said: "We are pleased that Omega has been able to CE-Mark Mologic's ELISA antibody test and it is testimony to the teams within both companies that we have reached this milestone in such a short timescale."

Omega is working separately with the UK Rapid Test Consortium (RTC) to jointly develop and make a point-of-care lateral flow test for Covid-19 antibodies which could be used at home and will be produced in Omega's facility in Alva.
