Omar Colley transfer alert as Celtic linked star's Sampdoria downfall heading for 'inevitable' outcome

Celtic-linked defender Omar Colley is reportedly heading for an "inevitable" Sampdoria exit.

Neil Lennon was linked with a swoop for the Gambian international defender during a summer where he appeared destined to leave the Serie A side.

Since the transfer window closed, Colley has found himself on the fringes of Claudio Ranieri's team.

The 28-year-old has managed just two league appearances this term, sitting an unused sub in the last four.

It's prompted speculation in the Italian media that Colley's time at the club is running out.

SampNews24 report a sale is in the offing and it's simply a case of when.

Celtic recruited Shane Duffy on-loan from Brighton but have been left short at centre-back at times this term through injury to Kristoffer Ajer and Christopher Jullien.

During the summer, it was claimed Celtic made a tentative enquiry about the defender's situation.

Back in September, Sampdoria chief Massimo Ferrero suggested the club would hold out for around £9million.

Whatever the exact figure, he insisted it won't be on the cheap.

Comparing Colleys to Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis' handling of Kalidou Koulibaly's potential move to Manchester City, Ferrero is quoted as saying: “But why should I give him away?

“Do you know how much De Laurentiis is negotiating for the possible sale of Koulibaly?
