Omar Colley Celtic bid claim prompts swift Neil Lennon response as he addresses 'formal offer'

Neil Lennon insists he's "not aware" of a reported Celtic bid for Sampdoria's Omar Colley.

A report from Italy on Saturday claimed the Premiership champions had lodged a £7.6million "formal offer" for the defender.

It's believed the Serie A club value Gambia international Colley at over £9m.

Regardless, Lennon has denied that the club have entered negotiations to sign him.

Asked if he could confirm the bid, Lennon told BBC Sportsound : "I can't, no.

"I can deny it, yeah.

"I'm not aware of that at all."

As Celtic prepare for face Motherwell at Parkhead, Lennon has named an unchanged team from Wednesday's Champions League qualifying defeat to Ferencvaros.

The manager maintains his side performed well despite losing 2-1 to the Hungarians.

And it's for that reason he's decided to stick with the same line-up, again opting against naming a recognised striker from the outset in the absence of Odsonne Edouard.

Lennon added: "Looking at the game in the cold light of day, we played pretty well.

"We deserved better, didn't have the luck, if you want to call it that.

"Important moments in the game went against us, I think they deserved another chance to play.

"It's not a case of wielding the axe, knee-jerk reactions. It's a time for calm.

"I'm pleased with the players and their focus over the last couple of days.

"I just want the motivation to be on the three points today."
