NEW DELHI: Senior Congress leader V D Satheesan on Sunday sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi's urgent intervention following reports that two people from Kerala died and another went missing in flash floods in Oman.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, Satheesan expressed concern over the incident that occurred on Saturday in Oman's Al Batinah Governorate, where a vehicle carrying the victims was caught in a sudden flash flood. The deceased were identified as Yusuf and Shamla, natives of Trithala in Kerala, while another woman, Ramla, also from the same area, remains missing.
"I write to you with deep concern regarding the tragic flash floods that struck Oman on Saturday, resulting in the loss of two lives and leaving one woman from Kerala still missing," Satheesan said in the letter.
He urged the Centre to coordinate with Omani authorities to expedite and strengthen ongoing search and rescue operations, particularly in view of continuing heavy rains and flood risk in the region.
Satheesan also requested that all possible assistance be extended to ensure the safety of those affected and to support the families of the victims.
