Oman Air, the national carrier of Oman, launched this week a new service between Muscat and the Moroccan city of Casablanca.

The flight is operated by Dreamliner (787-800) and is scheduled for departure from Muscat to Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca four times a week.

The company clarified that the service came in response to the increasing demands of customers wishing to explore Morocco’s landmarks and tourism areas.

The new move also follows Oman Air's launch of flights to Istanbul in June.

Oman Air has around 200 flights from the new facility in Casablanca, covering 9 destinations within the GCC countries, 11 in India and 7 in Europe, not to mention other destinations such as the Indian subcontinent, MENA and the Far East.

The inauguration ceremony held in Casablanca was attended by Moroccan Minister of Tourism Mohammed Sajid and his Omani counterpart Ahmed bin Nasser al Mehrzi as well as ambassadors of a number of Arab states in addition to businessmen, travel agency representatives, tourism sector figures and officials from airlines.

The two ministers affirmed that the new line linking Muscat with Casablanca is a reflection of the development policy adopted by the two countries and their efforts to foster ties.

They considered this service part of a series of deals struck between Morocco and Oman, saying it can turn both Casablanca and Muscat into gateways for several states in Africa, Europe and Asia.
