Omagh venue to host summer music festival ‘to bring the city to the town’

An Omagh entertainment venue is hoping to ‘bring the city to the town’ this summer with an outdoor music festival over four nights.

The Copper Tap will play host to the ‘Summer Sessions’ event, which will be bringing a number of acts to the Co Tyrone town in July.

Whilst tight lipped on who the acts will be, the venue’s manager Mark O’Connor told MyTyrone that the they will be from a number of different genres.

“It will be over four different nights with four different styles of music in July,” Mark said.

“We will have a capacity of up to 1,000 people each night, there will be an international DJ and a headliner of the whole event that is out there at the minute as one of the most recognised local artists.

“It’s something a bit different, we did a small scale event last year, but this year we are stepping it up quite a bit, and the hope will be that we outgrow the space that we’re in.

“It’s bringing the city to the town, people are going to the city all the time, be it Derry or Belfast for these acts and we want to bring that to people here.”

Mark added that a percentage of ticket sales will also go towards the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust.

He added: “It’s going to be a fundraiser as well as an event for the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust.

“I have a love for music and it’s one of the things that we have to do here.

“I think that it’ll be a special four nights and it's something very, very different for the town.”
