Omagh Hospital, Co Tyrone evacuated due to chemical leak as emergency services attend scene

An busy hospital in Co Tyrone has been partially evacuated due to a small chemical leak.

Omagh Hospital and Primary Care Complex has been partially evacuated on Monday morning after the incident was declared.

Fire crews attended the scene and said the leak has been isolated and four people are being assessed by paramedics, Belfast Live reports.

A spokesman for the fire service said: NIFRS received a call regarding a smell of fumes at Omagh Hospital on Monday 23 September. Six appliances are attending the incident as well a NIFRS Safety Officer and Hazmat Officer.

"NIFRS is working closely with the Western Health and Social Care Trust and the hospital has been partially evacuated. The cause of the smell has been identified as coming from a small chemical leak in the plant room at Omagh Hospital.

"This leak has been isolated and made safe. 4 people are currently being assessed by ambulance personnel at the scene.  The incident is currently ongoing."

In a tweet, the Western Health and Social Care Trust said: "Incident declared at Omagh Hospital and Primary Care Complex this morning. At present partial evacuation of the hospital site.

"Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service assessing the situation No patients have come to harm. Updates to follow."
