Om Prakash Chouhan the cynosure in KGA second leg

BENGALURU: Some of the top Indian pros, who missed last week’s event because of Asian Tour commitments, have descended on the Garden City for The Challenge presented by KGA, a $300,000 event on the Challenge Tour that gets underway at the KGA on Tuesday.

Mhow pro Om Prakash Chouhan ensured the Indian domination in the tier-two pro tour in Europe — the third Indian to win in four starts in the country — with a stunning show in the final round on Sunday. With the arrival of some of the big names, another Indian win on Friday can’t be ruled out.

Following his sensational triumph, Chouhan will obviously be the cynosure. “My win last week is a huge motivating factor to perform well this week too,” he said. “My game is in great shape and I want to make the most of this good form and am eager to tee it up in an even stronger field this week.”

Rashid Khan, who won the Asian Games trials at the KGA last year, will be looking to repeat that feat. “I feel my game is getting better with each passing week. However, I’m still working on addressing a few issues with my driving, which, besides putting, will be the key this week,” said Rashid, who finished runner-up at the DGC Open two weeks ago.

Local pro S Chikkarangappa, who knows the course like the back of his hand, is playing some of his best golf in recent months. The Bengalurean has been in contention for the title in the last couple of events on the Asian Tour, and what better place to end his international drought than the KGA, which is celebrating its Golden Jubilee year.

Veer Ahlawat, who was the best Indian at tied eighth place at the Hong Kong event last week, Karandeep Kochhar, Honey Baisoya, M Dharma, Udayan Mane and Khalin Joshi are some of the others who have the wherewithal to be the last one standing.

Among the Challenge Tour regulars, Ashley Chesters, Victor Pastor, Lorenzo Scalise, Rikard Karlberg and Manuel Elvira to name a few, will look to end the Indian domination.
