Om Malik, the veteran technology journalist, entrepreneur and founder of GigaOm, has died at the age of 59. According to a statement on his personal website, Malik passed away on June 24, 2026, at Stanford Hospital after a prolonged heart-related illness .
Born in New Delhi, and having studied at St Stephen’s College, Malik built a distinguished career covering the technology industry and was among the pioneering voices of Silicon Valley journalism.
He founded GigaOm in 2001, a technology news and analysis publication that became one of the most influential voices in tech media before being sold to Knowingly in 2015. He subsequently joined venture capital firm True Ventures as a partner.
Tributes poured in from across Silicon Valley following news of his death.
Apple marketing chief Greg Joswiak called him “an incredibly talented and thoughtful person who understood technology deeply, and who always saw it through a human lens.”
