Olympics to feel like training: cycle star

Australian cycling stalwart Annette Edmondson expects the Tokyo Olympics will feel like a training session.

Nine more cyclists on Thursday were named on Australia's cycling team, with Edmondson among the 22-strong team.

Endurance star Edmondson says the cyclists are bracing for a "completely different" Olympics.

"It's not even going to feel like a world cup or a world championships, it's just going to feel like a training session," Edmondson told AAP.

"Once we get to the track we will see other teams but it will just feel like we're in training before a competition.

"We have just got to mentally prepare for a training session when it comes to race day and focus on what we can do best.

"There have been a lot of question marks along the way so we have been imagining every possible scenario ... is going to have a bit of a vibe but it won't be the one that we're used to."

Edmondson, who won bronze in the omnium at the 2012 London Games, said the postponement of the Games hit her hard.

"It was definitely difficult," the team pursuit linchpin said.

"It was like a loss ... to have that disappear.

"We came up with a different type of program to make sure that we were going strong 16 months later, not within four months as originally planned.

"Through that process I realised what I want - and I really want to finish off at an Olympic Games.

"The idea of not having one was far worse than being able to go to one so that has definitely been my drive, to make sure we get to these Games and hopefully come back with something shiny."
