Olympics, drugs and a return to grass roots

Is it not time now for the pharmaceutical industries to just take over the running of the Olympic Games completely (Russian officials continue to lash out at Wada’s report into doping, theguardian.com, 10 November)? Contestants could take as much and as many performance-enhancing drugs as they pleased, the only proviso being that they stay alive long enough to make it unaided to the podium to collect their medals.

On alternating years, perhaps renewable energy suppliers, organic food growers and other “good” people would hold the “Green Olympics”. Grass tracks, barefoot runners, giant, felt-roofed yurt arenas, sundials and hour-glass timers, mead, morris dancers…

Surely a win-win solution?
