Deon Lendore, a sprinter who won a bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics, died Monday.
The 29-year old, who raced for Trinidad and Tobago, was involved in a automobile collision in Texas.
Lendore, an assistant coach at Texas A&M, was driving home from practice at the time of the three-car crash, the university said.
Lendore made three Olympic teams and won bronze at the 2012 London Olympics in the 4x400m relay. He also medaled in other events at the 2015 World Championships and both the 2016 and 2018 World Indoor Championships.
“Words cannot adequately express our sadness at the devastating and untimely loss of 3x Olympian and Olympic and World Championship bronze medalist Deon Lendore who has been an inspiration and motivation to us all both on an (sic) off the track,” the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee said.
“Deon has flown the Trinidad and Tobago flag with pride, honor, patriotism and an indomitable will throughout his career while helping and inspiring many.”
