Olympic Ireland team: Eight Dubliners who have locked in their spots for Tokyo

The Tokyo Olympics are set to kick off on July 23rd and the list of Dubliners heading to the Games has been growing steadily over the past year.

Many Dubs have already locked in their spots on the Irish squad but that list is expected to grow over the coming weeks as team selection for hockey, equestrian and rowing will happen soon.

At this point, eight Dublin athletes are guaranteed to be on that plane to Tokyo from a wide range of sports.

The talent among the group is incredible and there's a high chance of some medals being returned to the capital in August.

Here are the confirmed Dublin Olympians going to this years' Games.

Natalya Coyle- Modern Pentathlon

Modern pentathlon competitor Natalya Coyle is ready to jet off to Tokyo for her third Olympic Games.

The 30-year-old Dubliner placed ninth in the 2012 Games and moved up to sixth place in Rio.

She finished fifth in the recent Pentathlon World Cup.

Nhat Nguyen - Badminton

Nguyen has qualified for the men's singles in Badminton in what will be his first Olympics.

The 20-year-old moved from Vietnam to Dublin with his family when he was six-years-old and started playing the sport at a local club with his father.

He won gold at the 2016 European U17 championships.

Kellie Harrington- Boxing

This 31-year-old former world champion is set to make Dubliners proud in Tokyo.

She trains at St Mary's boxing club in Tallaght and won gold at the European Olympic qualifier this week, putting her in a great position ahead of next month´s Games.

Emmet Brennan- Boxing

Securing his Olympic spot just recently, the 30-year-old from Dublin Docklands Boxing Club became the seventh and final addition to the Irish Olympic boxing squad.

Annalise Murphy - Sailing

Rathfarnham sailor Annalise Murphy is an Olympic veteran and will be representing Team Ireland for the third time.

The 31-year-old has been in contention for gold at the past two Games, placing fourth in London and winning silver in Rio.

Murphy is going to give the gold medal one last shot this summer.

Robert Dickson & Sean Waddilove- Sailing

The pair of former European junior champions secured their Tokyo place in May.

Jack Woolley- Taekwondo

The Tallaght native will be Ireland's first ever Taekwondo representative at an Olympic Games.

The 22-year-old will compete in the 58kg category and has a win rate of 61%.
