Olympic hero Aidan Walsh says he plans to eat sweets and go to his caravan to celebrate bronze medal

Aidan Walsh says he plans to holiday in his caravan and stuff his face with sweets after arriving home from Tokyo.

Walsh was one of Ireland's heroes as he secured bronze a little over a week ago.

And the Irish fighter said that it hasn't sunk in yet.

"It's still just seems surreal to all them people. Usually I am the one out there supporting other people and I'm extremely lucky and extremely grateful and obviously everyone else in the team deserves a medal and first and foremost I'm an Olympian alongside my sister and everything else is a bonus."

And Walsh says he has plans in place already to relax.

"I'm going to go to my caravan with my girlfriend and just take it easy and have a bit of a Chinese and a tin of coke and lots of chocolate and lots of sweets, I haven't had sweets in ages. They didn't have sweets in Japan. I'd like a packet of Haribo. I can't wait. "

Walsh was forced to to withdraw from his semi-final bout due to injury but that far from dampened his spirits.

"It's just life in general, I think you just have to be positive. I always just try to take the positives for everything in life. Obviously from that situation it was hard but the positives that I was taking away from it was I was an Olympic medallist and whatever came after that I couldn't control so I just took it all in my stride and at the end of the day it was physically impossible to fight and that was it really. I'm here and I'm an Olympic bronze medallist."
