The Olympic flame will be displayed for one month at the J-Village national soccer training center in Fukushima Prefecture where the torch relay was scheduled to start, according to the Tokyo Olympic Organizing Committee.
The committee and the Fukushima prefectural government have decided to display the flame in a lantern at the facility April 1-30.
In order to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus infection, visitors will be advised to keep their distance from others while at the venue, among other prevention measures.
The flame will be displayed in Tokyo from May.
The torch relay was scheduled to start on March 26 at J-Village, which had been used as a recovery base following the nuclear accident at Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, Inc.s' Fukushima No. 1 power plant.
A ceremony held on March 20 marked the arrival of the flame at the Air Self Defense Force's Matsushima base in Miyagi Prefecture from Greece. However, the torch relay was suspended after the postponement of the Tokyo Games on Tuesday.
