Olympiacos release coronavirus update after Arsenal's match with Man City is postponed

Olympiacos have confirmed that none of their players have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus or coronavirus.

Arsenal saw their Premier League match against Manchester City postponed after facing the Greek Superleague club in the Europa League 13 days ago at the time of writing.

On March 10, Olypimacos owner Evangelos Marinakis announced that he had contracted the virus on social media.

He had been spotted in a number of areas at the Emirates Stadium as he team beat Arsenal in the Europa League on February 27, including the pitch.

The Gunners first response to the Marinakis diagnosis was to initiate a deep clean at their stadium and London Colney training base with the match against Olympiacos coming within the recommended 14-day quarantine window.

Due to falling within that period, Arsenal's match with Manchester City was postponed with individuals who made contact with Marinakis placed in self-isolation as a precautionary measure.

Following on from their owner's positive test result, Olympiacos sent their squad for tests over whether they had also contracted coronavirus.

In a statement released on their official website, the club said: "Olympiacos FC informs that after the required medical exams to which all the members of the football staff, as well as board members and staff, were submitted, all the tests came out negative for the COVID-19 virus."

Olympiacos were due to face Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Europa League round of 16 on March 12. A decision is expected to be made over whether the match will go ahead as planned or postponed due to developments around the coronavirus.
