Olympiacos issue fresh coronavirus update after Nottingham Forest owner diagnosis

Olympiacos say that none of their players or staff have contracted coronavirus.

The Greek outfit has carried out tests yesterday (Tuesday) after Olympiacos and Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis revealed he had contracted the virus.

Olympiacos released a statement this morning (Wednesday), which has been translated as saying: "Olympiakos informs that after the necessary medical examinations that all the members of the football department, the management and the staff were subjected to, the tests were all negative for COVID-19.”

Marinakis posted on Instagram yesterday: “The recent virus has ‘visited’ me and I felt obliged to let the public know.

“I feel good as I take all the necessary measures and I discipline to the doctors’ instructions.

“I strongly advise all my fellow citizens to do the same.

“I wish all a quick recovery.”

Marinakis attended Forest's 3-0 defeat to Millwall in the Sky Bet Championship on Friday night, when he is understood to have met players and staff.

Forest have said they are seeking advice from medical professionals as a result.

“Nottingham Forest can confirm that owner Evangelos Marinakis has tested positive for the coronavirus,” said the club in a statement.

“Mr Marinakis was diagnosed after showing the first symptoms on his return to Greece (on Monday) afternoon.

“During his short stay in Nottingham last week he did not show any symptoms of the virus.

“The club are seeking advice from medical professionals and the relevant governing bodies to ensure the correct measures are taken.

“Until this time the club will be making no further comment.”

Arsenal's Premier League fixture at Manchester City has been postponed after the Gunners came into contact with Marinakis at a recent Europa League tie.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are due to play Olympiacos in the Europa League tomorrow night (Thursday).

The tie will be played behind closed doors due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Wolves had a request to postpone the match rejected by UEFA.
