The 3Olympia Theatre has announced that the Christmas pantomime will be cancelled this year.
In a statement on Twitter, it said: “Unfortunately Olly, Polly & The Beanstalk panto will not be going ahead as planned in 3Olympia Theatre this season.”
They thanked ticketholders for their patience and said Ticketmaster would be in contact with customers in the coming days.
The post read: “Ticketmaster will be in touch with ticketholders over the coming days with more details.
“Your patience & understanding is much appreciated at this time.”
The decision was made after new Covid restrictions came into effect on Monday.
The new measures state that all theatres and indoor events must reduce their capacity by 50 per cent and not exceed a limit of 1,000 attendees. They must also close at 8pm.
Organisers said: "We would be unable to withstand the current audience restrictions in place but, more importantly, our concern is first and foremost the safety of our cast, crew and audiences, therefore we feel it's the right thing to do in these circumstances.
"Our cast are devastated as we felt that this year's panto could be the tonic that everyone needed. We will hold on to that magic and reveal all at next year’s Olympia panto."
The theatre also announced that shows scheduled for January will be postponed until September 2022.
It said: “Due to ongoing uncertainty and restrictions throughout Europe, @clairo’s 3Olympia Theatre shows scheduled for January 18th & 19th 2022 have been rescheduled to September 19th & 20th 2022.”
Artist Clairo also issued a statement on the 3Olympia website.
She said: “The health and safety of my fans, crew and the band is my top priority and I cannot wait to bring this show to you all next year. Please hold onto your tickets, as they will remain valid for the rescheduled shows.”
