Olly Lee set to leave Hearts for Gillingham on loan

Hearts outcast Olly Lee is set to join Gillingham on loan.

The midfielder has agreed to join the English League One side in a deal until January.

Scottish-born boss Steve Evans made the former Luton and Birmingham City his top target ahead of the close of the transfer window.

And Lee could make his debut against Bolton this weekend.

Hearts knocked back a similar loan deal from Southend earlier in the window.

It will come as relief to Lee as he has fallen out of favour under Craig Levein.

The 28-year-old was injured at the end of the last season and since he returned to full fitness he hasn’t been anywhere near the Hearts squad.

Levein has also strengthened his squad in recent weeks by bringing in Glenn Whelan and Loic Damour and that has pushed Lee even further down the pecking order.

Although the window for the Premier League and Championship closed earlier this month, it remains open in England’s lowe leagues until September 2.
