Olivier Ntcham transfer latest as Celtic boss Neil Lennon reveals heart-to-hearts with wantaway midfielder

Olivier Ntcham returned to the fray for Celtic in Tuesday's Champions League qualifying stroll against Nomme Kalju.

And after a summer best described as turbulent, the Frenchman put in a classy display full of the drive and verve that was all-too-often missing last season.

The performance had boss Neil Lennon purring and went some way to repairing the damage Ntcham did last month with his comments in a French magazine while on international duty with France U21s.

He claimed Scottish football wasn't good for his development and voiced his frustration at missing out on a move to Porto 12 months earlier.

Whatever the reasons for his statement, it predictably sparked a furious response from Lennon who slammed: “Olivier should be talking to us before coming out with comments like that. It doesn’t look good for him,.

“For us, we sort of had half an idea he may be looking to move on, but that should be kept private and we will discuss it when he comes back."

Those discussions have now taken place and, while transfer talk on Ntcham has gone quiet as the window enters the final month, Lennon and Ntcham appear to have cleared the air allowing the player to once again do his talking on the pitch.

Porto again had the player watched while he was playing for France U21s last month and Marseille have been linked with a move also.

But the £4.5million signing from Manchester City has three years remaining on his Hoops contract and the Celtic manager is eager to keep hold of the 23-year-old for the 9 in a row bid.

Now Lennon has revealed how a series of one-to-one meetings with the player have smoothed things over.

“I had a chat with him when he came back, we had a chat during the week and we had a good chat on Tuesday,” said Lennon.

“It was just about him in general and trying to get to know him a wee bit better.

“Whether that’s had any effect on his performance in Tallinn I don’t know, but I thought he was brilliant.

“Whether he plays the 10 or midfield you consider he has only really been back a week or two and it was a really good all-round performance.

“Again, you have to gauge the level you are playing against and be careful. But there was a lot of good things in his performance [in Tallinn] and it was pleasing.”
