Olivier Ntcham's struggles explained as Celtic loanee given 'on his way' Marseille boss assessment

Marseille interim boss Nasser Larguet has praised Olivier Ntcham' s push for fitness despite struggling to make an impact in Ligue 1.

The Celtic loanee has made just two substitute appearances for his new club following the January switch to France.

However, Larguet says the performances of key men Boubacar Kamara and Pape Gueye in the middle of the park have kept the 25-year-old out of the team.

The gaffer also notes that Ntcham had to put in extra work on the training ground to get up to speed with the rest of the squad.

Ntcham made his last appearance for the Hoops in December during in the 2-0 win over Ross County. However, he was used sparingly by Neil Lennon.

He told RMC Sport: “Today, he’s suffering a bit because of the good health of Boubacar Kamara and Pape Gueye.

"But it’s true he’s got as much chance of playing as the others. He’s a real professional. A real boost for the team.

“Every player has a role to play over the coming games. It’s true that Olivier Ntcham is on his way. Honestly, he’s a great guy, works a lot.

"He’s done a lot of extra training sessions. He came to a few extras because of that period of not playing. He’s a real professional”.
