Olivier Ntcham closes Celtic transfer escape route as midfielder 'shuts down' last ditch AEK talks

Olivier Nthcam has seemingly closed the door on a Celtic exit as last ditch AEK Athens efforts to revive talks look to have failed.

The French midfielder has been handed a Parkhead lifeline by Ange Postecoglou and made his first appearance of pre-season in Saturday's 2-1 win against Charlton at their Newport training base.

Ntcham looked to be heading to the exit before a move to AEK Athens collapsed at the last minute, and the £4.5m signing from Manchester City has pledged his future to the Parkhead club.

Reports in Greece claim that the Super League side attempted a last ditch bid to revive the talks in the last few days.

Greek outlet Sport Time report that the "negotiations did not go well" and Ntcham 's representatives have told the club he intends to stay in the Scottish Premiership.

The playmaker suffered a nightmare loan spell at Marseille last term when gaffer Andre Villas-Boas walked out in protest at his signing .

With a move to Athens seemingly on the cards this summer, it has been a complete u-turn from both parties with Celtic activating a one-year extension.

Following the warm-up clash with Charlton, Postecoglou admitted he had been impressed by the 25-year-old so far in pre-season.

He said: "He has been good at training.

“It was his first game in quite a while. He is lacking a bit of match touch and fitness but he is part of the squad and hopefully he can make an impact this year.”
