Olivier Ntcham breaks Celtic exit silence as new Marseille midfielder 'thankful' to Neil Lennon

Departing Celtic midfielder Olivier Ntcham has taken to Twitter to pay tribute to his former team-mates as he gets set for a new chapter with Marseille.

The 24-year-old joined the Ligue 1 side on loan deadline day and they hold an option to make the move permanent for a fee in the region of £5.5m.

If Marseille decide to activate that clause, it will end a four-year association between Ntcham and Celtic that saw him make 147 appearances and win three league titles with the Scottish club.

He has had his ups and downs in Glasgow since his £4.5m move from Manchester City but scored some important goals - his winner against Lazio at Stadio Olimpico last season will live long in the memory.

And it seems he will remember his time working under Brendan Rodgers and later Neil Lennon fondly.

He wrote on Twitter: "I am very happy to have joined the Marseillaise family! It’s a pleasure to honor the jersey of a big club like Marseille.

"I will be always thankful for everything Celtic gave me and I wish you all the best for the future."

Ntcham's first day at Marseille was marked by controversy after boss Andre Villas-Boas attempted to resign over the midfielder's arrival.

The Portuguese coach claims he said no to signing the player and has since been suspended by club bosses after an incredible outburst.
